Vulnerability Assessment in PatchQuest is carried out by
'scanning' systems, an IP range or the entire network. Vulnerability
Assessment Scans identify potential security loopholes in
the operating systems and applications, and report the status
of missing patches and existent patch installations that address
these vulnerabilities. Administrators can easily determine
at a glance which systems do not have critical patches installed,
and take remedial action.
During vulnerability assessment, the validity of patches
- missing or installed - is ascertained by intelligent file
size-and-version checks, registry checks and checksums and
these enable PatchQuest to recognize when a new file has overwritten
a file from an older patch.

IT administrators have the responsibility of keeping the systems up-to-date with the latest patches by performing patch management tasks. PatchQuest provides a highly usable web interface with which administrators can group servers and desktops, centrally scan them, detect missing patches in them and schedule patch deployments automatically. It also provides status reports on task completion and enables administrators to keep track of the availability of the latest released patches.
An IT Manager needs to see an overall picture of the Patch Management status within the enterprise, to ensure that the network is well-patched and secure. PatchQuest provides IT Managers with at-a-glance, graphical dashboard views of the patching status for both desktops and servers along with consolidated reports to assist in making informed decisions.
IT Security Staff govern the network security of the entire enterprise. Their role is to ensure that patch management tasks are periodically performed and to track vulnerability status on critical servers and desktops so that the organization's security policies are adhered to. PatchQuest provides IT Security personnel with reports on the vulnerability status of systems, historical reports and scan differential reports which aid in the process of ensuring system security.
