Setting Proxy

Internet access is essential to update the vulnerability database information from AdventNet's website and to download patches from the vendor sites. In your enterprise network setup, you might need to go through a proxy server to access the internet. In this case, you can configure the username and password that is provided for internet access, from this screen (Settings » Proxy). This configuration is essentially for the system in which the PatchQuest server is installed.

The different parameters to be configured are :

1. Host name of the proxy server

2. Port number at which the server is running

3. Username to access the internet

4. Password

Patches are downloaded from HTTP as well as FTP URLs. Therefore, these configurations are to be effected for both http as well as ftp access to the internet.

If your proxy server supports both FTP and HTTP downloads, check the 'Same as HTTP Proxy Configuration' option (checked by default).

Note : These parameters will be already available if you have configured them during installation.

Configuring Proxy server using NTLM authentication

PatchQuest now supports both Basic Authentication as well as NTLM Authentication, for access via web proxy. Therefore, you can specify the proxy details for any web proxy server that supports NTLM based authentication as well like ISA Server 2000 etc.

Testing proxy settings

You can test the connectivity to the Proxy Server from the 'Test Proxy' box on this screen. This test can be executed only after you have saved (clicking the 'Save' button), the proxy parameters.

Removing proxy parameters

To remove the proxy configurations permanently from the system, click on the 'Remove Configuration' button. This will mean that the PatchQuest server will not have access to the proxy server anymore, to connect to the internet.
