Starting the Agent

Just after the PatchQuest agent is successfully installed, the default behavior is that it automatically starts up as a service in Windows machines and as a daemon in Linux machines (requires administrator privileges).

In case you have not chosen this option during installation, you can start the agent using the options below :

On Windows

Starting Agent Service

You can run the agent as a service from either from Start ť Program Files ť SecureCentral PatchQuest Agent 4 ť Control PatchQuest Agent ť Start or from the Service Applet (Service Name : PatchQuest Agent). A taskbar tray icon indicates that the PQ Agent service is running.

Stopping Agent Service

There are 2 ways to stop the PQ Agent service. Any one of them can be adopted :

Click Start ť Program Files ť SecureCentral PatchQuest Agent 4 ť Control PatchQuest Agent ť Stop
Visit the Service Applet (Settings ť Control Panel ť Administrative Tools ť Services) and stop the service : PatchQuest Agent)

On Linux

You can manually control the start-up and shutdown of the Linux agent daemon.

To start the agent,

Traverse to the <Agent_Install_Dir>/AdventNet/SecureCentral/PatchQuestAgent/bin directory
From a shell or UNIX console, execute the command : ./pqagent start

To stop the agent,

Traverse to the <Agent_Install_Dir>/AdventNet/SecureCentral/PatchQuestAgent/bin directory
From a shell or UNIX console, execute the command : ./pqagent stop
