Prerequisites for monitoring HP MSA Array
  • OpStor uses the HP SMI-S MSA Provider based on SNIA standard to monitor the HP MSA
  • The MSA provider can be installed on any server running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 Server
  • This server must have a path through the SAN to the MSA devices that will be managed.
  • Also the server must be reachable from the server where OpStor is installed
  • The HP SMI-S MSA Provider is downloadable from the HP site at

  • Installation details for the MSA Provider are available in the above page
  • HP SMI-S Support Matrix document available at

  • Ensure that MSA firmware version is compatible with the installed SMI-S provider (latest download corresponds to SMI v1.0.3)
  • Start the MSA Provider service hp StorageWorks SMI-S CIMOM from the Windows services menu


Steps to add HP MSA Array in OpStor
  • Navigate to Admin Tab-->Manage Storage Devices link in OpStor
  • Provide IP Address of server where MSA Provider is running
  • Select SMI option
  • In username field enter MSA Provider username
  • In password field enter MSA Provider password
  • Click Add Device
