Server Management is essential to ensure that the underlying
infrastructure of business-critical applications are
fine. The goal of any system administrator is to ensure
that the various systems and servers are running smoothly,
know how loaded (or overloaded) a system is and how
effectively they are utilized (or overused), etc.
Applications Management along with Servers Management
enables an IT administrator to identify whether a problem
reported is caused by the underlying operating system
or the application or a service. This will help make effective
changes in the resources quickly and reduce application
bottle-necks.
Server Monitoring involves monitoring of server load, disk
utilization, memory utilization, Disk I/O stats and server
CPU utilization.
Applications Manager Server Monitoring
provides support for the following servers out-of-the-box:
ManageEngine® Applications Manager's SAP monitor
enables you to reap maximum ROI of having deployed SAP
in your environment. It allows you to easily monitor the
availability and performance of your complex
SAP environment from a centralized web console. More>>
Server problems can be diagnosed and corrected instantly,
or notified to system administrator. Performance and event
data are archived to enable you to evaluate service-level
compliance, assess IT requirement, and plan effectively for
growth.
We used MOM 2000 and 2005 before ApplicationsManager.
We were not satisfied with the reports that mom produces.
AppManager gives really comprehensive reports about
our systems. We have nearly 70 servers (Microsoft and
Tru64 and HPUX, HP DL and HP Alpha servers) around including
branch offices. We are using Oracle databases. AppManager's
Oracle monitor pages are really good for our Oracle
DBAs.
The most important property of AppManager is that there
are no AGENTS anymore. The notifications section is
also the important thing that we use mostly.
Online Support was a great opportunity for us. Thanks
for this real system monitoring tool."

Happened to read this article in Computer World about how hotel reservations system crashed at MGM Mirage. It had caused check-in and check-out problems for thousands of guests in seven hotels in Las Vegas and elsewhere. "We haven't narrowed down the problem to a specific cause," the spokeswoman of MGM Mirage said. "I would be hesitant at this point to say it was the reservation system. The issue could lie in an underlying application or process."..... read full blog
